I’m married to a gentleman from the Deep South of Mississippi. He grew up on a former cotton field, share cropper parcel with four other siblings. They farmed in the red Mississippi dirt and ate straight from their gardens and probably neighbor’s gardens as well. To this day he plants and nurtures a garden that offers fresh, non chemically treated vegetables that he pulls from the ground, washes off with a water hose and eats his harvest. The summer time is our favorite time of year, as by default, we become vegetarians and our grocery bill reduces accordingly as a result.
